Sunset Write & Walks at Indian Island (9/18)
Join us on one or more of four summer evenings to revel in longer, warmer days, epic sunsets and deep journaling on Indian Island's radiant and secluded beaches. (6/28, 7/17, 8/28, 9/18)
Indian Island — in addition to its miles of secluded, stunning beaches, Madrone-lined trails and bird-haven wetlands — is an ideal spot for gorgeous sunset views.

In this 4-part series, not only will we explore a different theme in each session, we’ll also track the sun’s journey across the sky!
In June’s session (6/28) — the week after Summer Solstice — the sun is in its most northwestern setting position, going down below the horizon at 9:15pm. The theme for this session is The Luminous Self.
In July’s session (7/17), we’ll see the sun set a bit earlier (8:56pm) as it edges westward on the horizon. This session’s theme is Touching Oneness.
In August’s session (8/28), we’ll really be noticing that the sun is setting earlier (7:55pm) and the days are feeling shorter — by this time, the sun will be setting much closer to the west, and — as seen from Indian Island’s third beach — right behind Mount Townsend. The theme for this session is Embodying the Soul.
Finally, in September’s session (9/18), we will be watching the sun set in its perfect West position right before fall Equinox (at a very early 7:15pm!), with length of day and night almost equal.
And if we're really lucky on any of those clear evenings, we'll get to see the luminous glow of the setting sun on Mount Rainier in the south.
Indian Island also hosts an abundance in migrating seabirds, ducks, seals, otters, blue heron and eagles…and occasionally whales!1
The walk itself is a delightful, easy stroll on and above the beach in one of the most secluded and beautiful public beaches on the Peninsula. Bring your journal and a pen as we’ll have a group writing exercise to deepen our connection to ourselves while communing with the natural world.
These three summer sessions are very mellow, with minimal walking on beach and well-maintained short forest trails. If you have health or mobility concerns, email Carrie and we can jointly assess to see if it’s a good fit for you.

Last year, my son and I were walking up to the parking lot from the beach and a woman behind us yelled, “Oh my gosh, a whale!” We looked but saw nothing (and honestly did not believe her), but as we were discussing what kind of whale it could have been, a gray whale breached directly in front of us. It was so enormous and astonishing in that narrow channel, we just about fell over in surprise and delight!
If cost is a preventative issue for you, please email Carrie for sliding-scale options.
I wish I lived closer. Walk & Writes are my jam.
I'd be joining you if I lived there!
